The goal of a District-wide Master Facilities Plan process is to create a long range vision for the school district facilities while simultaneously developing realistic 10-year plans for your school sites with clear implementation strategies. The master planning process will include District-wide planning and goal setting, transparent community outreach, existing facility assessments, school site master planning specific to Ormondale and Corte Madera schools, and conclude with prioritization and documentation.

The Board of Trustees would like to begin this process by reaching out to the Portola Valley School District community - students, faculty, parents, community groups - to collect a broad range of input. This input will be used to guide the master planning process and ensure the final master plan truly reflects the priorities and vision of the Portola Valley School District community.

The School District will be hosting a Community Outreach Forum on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:30 in the evening in the Annex Building at the Corte Madera School. The agenda for this meeting will include an overview of the master planning process, group discussion and information gathering, and presentation of current trends in educational spaces to prompt further input.

Please consider the following questions and items for discussion prior to the Forum:

  1. Where do you see the greatest need for facility improvements on the Ormondale and Corte Madera school campuses? Think big and small.

  2. How can the facilities better support educational programs? Do you see a need for more flexibility and connectivity between classrooms / outdoor spaces / support spaces? If so, what ideas do you have to improve flexibility and connectivity?

  3. Consider how the following spaces on each campus could be improved:
    • the classroom learning environment
    • athletic spaces: Multi-use Room, playground, fields
    • public spaces: courtyards, Multi-use Room, performance spaces
    • outdoor spaces: courtyards, outdoor classrooms, outdoor amphitheater, gardens
    • academic support spaces: maker spaces, elective classrooms, RSP classrooms

  4. What are your thoughts on the current school grade-level configuration (Ormondale: K-3rd, Corte Madera: 4th-6th)?

We look forward to seeing you Wed, Nov 2, 2016 at the Community Outreach Forum and hearing your ideas.
