Public projects costing seventy five thousand dollars ($75,000) or less may be performed by the employees of a public agency by force account, by negotiated contract, or by purchase order. Public projects costing between seventy five thousand dollars ($75,000) and two hundred twenty thousand dollars ($220,000) may be awarded by informal bidding procedures. Public projects costing over two hundred twenty thousand dollars ($220,000) are subject to the formal bidding process. All contractors performing work costing over $1000 must be registered with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).
