Registering a New Student

Welcome to the Portola Valley Elementary School District (PVSD). We look forward to meeting you and your family.

Registration during the Current 2021-2022 School Year

To begin the registration process for Kindergarten through 8th grade, bring the following to the school office where your child is to attend:

1. EVIDENCE OF RESIDENCY: You must provide reasonable evidence of residency for your pupil living within the boundaries of the District through documentation showing the name and address of the parent or legal guardian within the school district, including, but not limited to, any of the following documentation:

    1. Property tax payment receipts
    2. Rental property contract, lease, or payment receipts
    3. Utility service contact, statement, or payment receipt
    4. Pay stubs reflecting address of parent or guardian within the District
    5. Voter registration document for parent or guardian
    6. Correspondence from a government agency addressed to the parent or guardian within the District
    7. Declaration of residency executed by the parent or legal guardian of a pupil

AND one of the following:

     a. current utility bill (PG&E, waste management, water)
     b. cell phone bill

2. DOCUMENTATION OF AGE: Evidence of the child's age may include:
     1. A certified copy of a Birth Certificate or a statement by the local registrar or county recorder certifying the date of birth.
     2. A duly attested baptism certificate
     3. A passport
     4. When none of the foregoing is obtainable, the parent/guardian may provide an affidavit (Education Code 48002)

3. IMMUNIZATIONS RECORD: All immunizations must be current/completed prior to your child beginning school. If the immunizations records are not in English, please provide a translation.

If you are having difficulty obtaining necessary documents for residency or proof of age, please contact the school offices for guidance.

4. Once documentation has been submitted to the school, parents will receive an email from PowerSchool within 24-48 hours with information on how to create an account and complete registration online.

Your child will not be enrolled unless all residency forms are complete. Please note that incoming kindergarten students will also be required to have a health and oral exams completed and submitted to school office before first day of school. (see forms on side)

Please contact the school office if you cannot complete a health exam due to your child’s 5th birthday occurring after school begins.

5. You will be notified by school offices once your online registration is complete.

All students enrolling in the Portola Valley School District (PVSD) must satisfy California State Immunization Requirements prior to enrollment. Please see the Immunization Requirement page of our website.

Students enrolling in PVSD from outside of the United States are also subject to the immunization requirements of the State of California and will not be admitted until all requirements are met. We will need proper documentation of your child's immunization with English translation as necessary to verify the records.

Please note: Your child will not receive class placement until all state required immunizations have been met.
